Randy's career as a speaker and trainer followed his time as a law enforcement officer, EMT, and later as a crisis and trauma counselor. For eight years, Randy served as an on-scene crisis counselor within a law enforcement-based program, responding to crimes and critical incidents. Randy has assisted victims of violent crime, accidents and disasters, and supported law enforcement officers and other first responders who had experienced traumatic events.

In addition to serving a local clientele, Randy has responded to national incidents, including the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995, and the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. Within these deployments, Randy provided crisis counseling, primarily for first responders, crisis chaplains and others.
